It is widely accepted that using renewable energy resources such as wind, solar and water is preferable to burning fossil fuels. They are much less polluting and reserves will last indefinitely. Gas provides a much cleaner alternative to coal, however will not last beyond the 21st century. Reserves are coming under ever-increasing international pressure, with resulting rapid rise in price. This combined with Global Climate Change, now considered an important issue, means that the UK is looking to expand its renewable energy sector as rapidly as possible.
Shawater Ltd. is one of the United Kingdom's largest firms specialising in hydro-electric power schemes of up to 10 Megawatts. We cover both run-of-river schemes and marine energy systems. Located in the heart of Somerset, we are currently designing and developing over 30 projects. Those operating include schemes in Scotland, Wales and Ireland, including Snowdonia, the Peak District and the Lake District national parks. Some of our projects feature within this site. We provide a full consultancy service, including environmental impact analysis, detailed scheme design, construction management and remote monitoring.
