Ecological surveys
For all sites we produce an Environmental Statement presenting the potential side effects of building a hydro scheme. We consult specialists in areas such as botany, archaeology, fisheries, ornithology, geology, land mammals, insects and hydrology in order to plan and carry out the necessary detailed site surveys. The final document covers all aspects of the project, including effects on society, tourism, transport and landscape, together with any interactions.
If an adviser discovers a concern relating to any aspect of a potential scheme, a solution is usually found in one of the following ways: More in-depth survey work may deem the concern to be unwarranted; certain scheme constituents may be re-located; in some cases building design changes can be accommodated; construction can be limited by season. Due to the low-impact nature of run-of-river hydro schemes in general, it would be extremely rare if a solution could not be found.
