ENERGY : Overview |

|
Hydro power has seen a sharp redirection from the classical large dam style of plant. While large schemes produce large amounts of power they can have a devastating impact on the landscape and environment. Whole communities may have to move as a result of flooding large tracts of land and many wild habitats are destroyed.
Small scale hydro plants have a much more limited effect and while they do not produce the same amount of power they are individually more easily replicated. Set up costs are much lower as too are running costs. Much less time is needed to plan and build. |
