This comprises a turbine and electrical generator (sometimes known as an alternator). A transformer is needed if the voltage produced by the generator does not match that of the system being supplied. The instruments within the powerhouse are interfaced with via a control panel. Hydro power is a global industry with a great deal of international competition. This has produced technology and expertise so advanced that reliability is now extremely high and maintenance straightforward. Most repairs are within the capability of local engineers.
