PROJECTS : Lowerymore

The Lowerymore hydro power scheme is similar to Aberdulais in style and objective. The scheme produces over half a megawatt of power. This is enough for 1400 people, around half the population of the local town of Donegal.

The site is located in a heavily outcropped and rocky area. To bury the pipeline would have meant bringing in heavy equipment which would have been very difficult to achieve. It would have also been expensive and would have caused unwarranted environmental damage.

The solution devised involved running the pipeline under a bridge. The bridge now allows visitors to see what had previously been an inaccessible but beautiful site. The bridge is 30 metres long and presents views of the waterfall through a thin veil of hazel trees.
